Flora Yin Wong is a London-born Malaysian-Chinese artist, DJ and writer currently based between the UK and rural Japan. Her first two albums ‘Holy Palm’ and ‘Cold Reading’ were released on Modern Love and has appeared on labels PAN, Tectonic, Paralaxe Editions, Nyege Nyege, Danse Noire and Shelter Press. Whilst her productions veer on the experimental side, her DJ sets for the likes of Raster-Noton, Berghain, fabric, Razzmatazz, Boiler Room, etc move through UK club: garage, heavy dub and jungle that she grew up on in the 90s/00s to global sounds like gqom, budots, cumbia, kizomba, funkot, kuduro, etc. She has performed at institutes like Palais de Tokyo Paris, The ICA London, MACRO Roma, MMCA Seoul, Fondation Beyeler Basel, Triennale Milano, Somerset House, The V&A Museum, ATONAL Berlin, Unsound Krakow, Semibreve, MUTEK Peru / Buenos Aires / Montreal, ISSUE Project Room, WWWB Tokyo, SOTO Kyoto etc. In 2023, she launched the label Doyenne – publishing works from the likes of Alex Zhang Hungtai, Claire Rousay, YL Hooi, Teresa Winter, etc.

A writer and music producer, Flora Yin-Wong moves between theory and practice with a rare fluidity from essays to albums, from criticism to composition. This is why her appearance at Semibreve is actually a return. We have previously welcomed her as a journalist and moderator, covering the festival from outside, and in 2021 she performed as an artist with the multichannel electroacoustic piece “The Sacrifice,” which took place as a prolonged, immersive format in the Capela Imaculada. Now, for the 2026 edition, Flora Yin-Wong returns to our lineup in a different role, quite distinct from her previous ones, bringing rhythms that reveal another facet of her musical work. While on her albums Flora is abstract and contemplative, in her DJ sets the energy transforms, keeping the same ghostly DNA, but now amplified by an avalanche of fractured rhythms, cinematic atmospheres, and futuristic electronica, all woven together into a feverish, global journey where the mind cannot rest while the body dances.
